Aluminum is the third most abundant element in the earth’s crust and the most abundant metallic element. For the last 50 years, it has been second only to iron in its industrial use. Aluminum has many useful properties. It is light, being only one-third the density of steel, and like copper, it has high conductivity for heat and electricity, excellent corrosion resistance in most environments, and can be readily cast or forged into a wide range of applications. When a balance between light-weight, performance, and safety are required, aluminum forgings represent the best alternative when compared with other manufacturing processes such as casting.
