Prodsuct Introdsuction
Aluminium 2017 alloy is a heat treatable wrought alloy with intermediate strength. It is stronger than aluminium 2011, but harder to machine, workability is fair with ductility and formability better that aluminium 2014. Arc and resistance weldability of this alloy are satisfactory while corrosion resistance is fair. 2017 had been used as aerospace components, rivets, general structural components, transportation, fasteners, screw machine prodsucts, gauges, pulleys and needles for knitting.

Prodsuct Applications
As with many aluminum alloys, Aluminum 2017 should not be welded as it reduces the alloy’s corrosion resistance.
Structural or Architectural applications

Commonly used in the manufacture of screw machine prodsucts and fittings, pulleys, gauges, coat hangers, and in crochet and knitting needles.
Prodsuct Feature
Machinability is very good for this alloy in the T4 temper. In the annealed condition machinability is less good.
Formability is very good, especially in the annealed state ("O" temper). The alloy may also be readily formed when in the T4 temper, but not as easily as for the "O" temper.
The alloy may be welded, however welding heat will reduce corrosion resistance. In general welding should be avoided unless heat treatment after welding is possible to restore corrosion resistance.
