Last Updated: 2023-10-18

1.The Description of the 6061 Extruded Aluminum Pipe

The 6061 aluminum tube is a heat treated aluminum that has been fused with silicon and magnesium. This prodsuct is widely used for various types of applications in many different industries. This grade of alloy can be easily welded and machined. It has a 90% machinability rating and has a high finish once completed. Cold working can be easily performed when 6061 aluminums are in the annealed condition. At this point, standard methods of cold working be used for deep drawing, tapping, cutting, drilling, bending and stamping.

3.The Application of the 6061 Extruded Aluminum Pipe

The common applications that the 6061 aluminum alloy is used for include jigs, machine parts, marine components, fasteners, truck components, appliance fittings, camera lens mounts and electrical fittings. For heavy duty structures that need high corrosion resistance and a good strength-to-weight ratio, 6061 aluminums can be used for this purpose.

4.The Feature of the 6061 Extruded Aluminum Pipe

Forging can be used for this prodsuct, which is recommended to be done at temperatures sitting between 750 and 900 degrees F. Hot working should be done using a temperature between 500 and 700 degrees F. When solution heat treating is needed, it can be done continuously at 990 degrees F, thoroughly heating the metal. Water quenching should be done afterward. In order to harden this metal, 320 degrees F should be used continuously for 18 hours, then air cooling should follow. Then another eight hours of 350 degrees F, followed by air cooling.

Annealing is sometimes needed, which is recommended to be done continuously at 775 degrees F for two to three hours. A controlled dropping of the temperature should be applied, dropping 50 degrees F each hour until 500 degrees F is reached, then followed by air cooling.
