Hardness test method of aluminum sheet

Last Updated: 2021-11-24

  1. Brinell hardness test method: This is a commonly used metal hardness test method, which is applicable to various metals and alloys. This method uses a steel ball or drill bit with standard geometric shape and size, presses a certain load on the aluminum sheet to be tested, and determines the hardness value according to the indentation depth. The hardness value of aluminum sheet is usually expressed in Brinell hardness (HB).
  2. Wright hardness test method: This is also a commonly used metal hardness test method, especially suitable for thinner metal sheets. This method uses a drill bit with a standard geometry and size to apply a load on the aluminum sheet to be tested at a certain rate, and then calculates the hardness value based on the penetration depth of the drill bit into the aluminum sheet. The hardness value of aluminum sheet is usually expressed in Wright hardness (HR).

No matter which test method is used, it needs to be tested under suitable conditions, such as under constant temperature, humidity and load conditions, to ensure the accuracy and comparability of test results. At the same time, before the hardness test, the aluminum sheet needs to be surface treated and flattened to ensure that the test results reflect the hardness of the aluminum sheet itself.
