What is 3003 aluminum?
3003 Aluminum sheet is alloyed with 1.2% manganese to provide a tensile strength range of 17 to 30 KSI. It is essentially commercially pure aluminum with the addition of manganese which increases the strength approx, 20% over 1100 grade aluminum alloy.
3003 aluminum sheet is one of the most widely used of all aluminum alloys. Al 3003 has Excellent workability, weldability, and corrosion resistance. It is a typical Al-Mn antirust alloy. It is one of the alloys that have great machinability.
Signi aluminum manufacture a lot of high quality 3003 aluminum in stock and can give you reasonable factory prices. 3003 aluminum can also be purchased as coil, but in that situation, it would normally be sold to scale weight.
Our 3003 aluminum alloy products in stock include 3003 aluminum sheet, 3003 aluminum coil and 3003 aluminum round sheet / disk, to determine if there is a suitable 3003 aluminum alloy size for you, we invite you to email aluminumtigers@gmail.com today. Alloy | Why it might be chosen instead of 3003 |
5005 | Bright (decorative) anodizing finish is required. |
5052 | Higher strength required and less bright finish is acceptable. |
5083 | Higher strength or improved corrosion resistance required, particularly for ship hull applications. |
To soften Alloy 3003 it can be annealed by heating to 415°C, hold until uniform temperature then cool; the rate of cooling is not important.
3003 aluminum welding
3003 aluminum is readily welded with conventional methods. The filler rod is typically aluminum 1100. When welding 3003 to other aluminum alloys, such as 5052, 6061, or 6062, the filler rod should be 4043 aluminum.
3003 aluminum has a lot of great characteristics that make it a popular choice. Other than being weldable and corrosion-resistant, it also has a surface that has a highly polished finish, making it an attractive choice. Although thin, it cannot be bent easily, instead of requiring special tools to do so.
Aluminum 3003 alloy metal is easily welded and brazed, but soldering is limited to the torch method.
The conductivity of al 3003 alloys is 40 percent of copper.
The main alloying ingredient is Manganese, which gives it greater strength than 1100 while retaining most of the desirable qualities of the 1XXX series. Due to its excellent formability, 3003 has a wide range of uses including cookware.

The difference between aluminum 3003 and 1100 aluminum alloy:
It has all the excellent characteristics of 1100 aluminum alloy with higher strength. Like 1100, 3003 aluminum tends to be gummy when machined but will perform somewhat satisfactorily in the higher tempers with the proper set-up and maximum speeds.
3003 aluminum coil and sheet are approximately 20% stronger than 1100 series aluminum.
What is the difference between 5052 & 3003 aluminum?
3003 aluminum sheet and 5052 aluminum sheet are typically known as “Common Alloys” because they are two of the most widely specified alloys in the aluminum industry.
It is clear that while the chemical compositions look similar, they are alloys that both have much in common and also substantial differences.
3003 is primarily alloyed with Manganese (Mn) and the primary alloy ingredient for 5052 is Magnesium (Mg). In all, you’ll see that 3003 is an alloy of Silicon, Iron, Copper, Magnesium, and Zinc, while 5052 is an alloy of Silicon, Copper, Manganese, Magnesium, Chromium, and Zinc.
3003 is fairly soft and has good corrosion resistance, good drawing, good workability, moderate strength, and is weldable, while 5052-h32 is stronger and has better corrosion resistance, good drawing, good formability, higher strength, and also is weldable.
3003 recommended for cooking utensils and 5052 for hydraulic tube.
